A hearty welcome to y’all from Pawleys Island and the friendly people of South Carolina. We hope you’ll take the time to visit and enjoy our wonderful weather, beautiful white sandy beaches, quaint shopping areas and, after a round of golf, one of our outstanding restaurants. Only 15 miles south of Myrtle Beach on Highway 17, we are between the Atlantic Ocean and the Waccamaw River. Part of the Community is on an island. A resort area attracting vacationers and golfers from all over the world and the home of the nationally known Brookgreen Gardens with its sculptures, flower gardens, there is a zoo of native animal species for the children to enjoy. We boast some of the best Golf Courses in the nation and are the premier golf destination in the southeast, |

attracting thousands of visitors year round. There are wonderful hotels accommodations and an opportunity to frolic in the surf or stroll on our beautiful beaches. Dining is especially pleasant with a wide variety of outstanding restaurants providing an international cuisine. But seafood is king. Fishing fleets dock daily in Murrells Inlet, 3 miles North, and in Georgetown only 10 miles south that bring daily their fresh catches of shrimp, oysters, grouper and many other favorite varieties. Some enjoy to go on excursion dolphin watches. Once a haven for pirates and privateers, the area was also the original world source of Rice and Indigo. Plantations still dot the area where those crops were grown. In times past, our forests were a source of naval stores used to seal the hulls of the great wooden ships that sailed along the coast. Pawleys Island is the home of our thirty-two year old Rotary Club chartered on August 24, 1977. Our luncheon meetings are at 1 pm, Thursdays, at the Litchfield Country Club. Programs are short and informative, and the dress Southern Casual. The view of the Golf Course surrounding our meeting venue and the exceptional menu certainly contributes to a wonderful dining experience. We invite you to visit but like so many others, you decide to stay! |
